Common Voice extended-sprint at Jahangirnagar University
Initiated by Mozilla Foundation, ‘Common Voice’ is open-source project to create a free database of speech recognition software. The project is supported by volunteers around the world to contribute audio data-set. The transcribed sentences are collected in a voice database and ensures that developers can use the database for free of costs.
As a Mozilla reps this is my first event. I have a target to gather 30 people to get outcome as some new contributors at Mozilla. After finish Common Voice : Global Sprint (10–11 May 2018), I have a plan to organize a small tech talk type sprint at my university for my senior, batchmate and junior.
Faiza Feroz who attended as a participant. She expressed that attending an event on Common Voice was completely a new experience about Mozilla. It’s great to have a open source voice recognition technology and having it on our own language is superb. I would be proud to be a part of this.
I demonstrated how to contribute at common voice. Some participants started contribution on spot. That was really amazing.
Tanjim Taharat Aurpa said that Common Voice project, a new project,brought up by Mozilla. The main goal of this project is to collect huge amount of data as voice records.The target is to introducing the machine with the variety of human voice and use that for the betterment of technology in near future.As an open source project anyone can contribute to this project
Apart from overview discussions, the participants were given an opportunity to take a sneak peek into the localization process of Mozilla funded projects and also the ways contribute as a volunteer.
The discussion concluded with distribution of some surprise sweets for the audience :)
