Higher Study Series 21 — Statement of Purpose (SOP) or Motivation letter or Study Plan কিভাবে লিখতে হয় বা কি কি Focus করতে হয়?

প্রায় সময়ই আমার জুনিয়র, বন্ধুদের থেকে এই অনুরোধটি পাই SOP কিভাবে লিখব? কত পাতার হতে হবে? কত Word এর হতে হবে? কি কি লেখতেই হবে? কপি করতে পারব কিনা? অন্যের টা মেরে দিতে পারব কিনা? নানান প্রশ্ন! আজ সে নিয়ে ব্লগ লিখেই ফেললাম। আশা করি অনেক উত্তর ই কভার করতে পারব।
শুরুতেই বলে দেই SOP, CV তে কোথাও থেকে কপি করে কিছু লিখবেন নাহ। বাইরের দেশের প্রায় সব বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়েরই Plagiarism checker, CV checking software এসব আছে। তাই সাধু সাবধান!! এক ভুল সারা জীবনের কান্না!
আমার ব্যক্তিগত ভাবে SOP লেখার হাতে খড়ি হয় EMK Center এ Outreach Coordinator Ruhul Amin ভাইয়ের কাছে থেকে। এরপর নিজে লিখে সেটা Tohin ভাই ও Ruhul ভাইয়ের থেকে Feedback নিয়ে আরও উন্নত করেছিলাম নিজের SOP, CV দুটোই।
SOP বিভিন্ন University/Scholarship authority বিভিন্ন Format ঠিক করে দেয়। যেমন Stipendium Hungaricum ওরা 6000 character এর ভিতর ৭ টার মত প্রশ্ন কভার করতে বলে। এজন্য আপনি সুন্দর করে প্রশ্ন গুলো উত্তর করতে পারেন। এক্ষেত্রে কয়েকটা Paragraph করে উত্তরগুলো সাজাতে পারেন। Turkish Burslari Scholarship ও এমন প্রশ্নের নিচে বক্স করে দেয়। SISGP (Sweden) এ ওরা ওদের Format দিয়ে দেয়। Estonia তে Hungary এর মত প্রশ্ন দিয়ে দেয় যেসব কভার করতে হবে। আবার Erasmus Mundus এ বিভিন্ন প্রোগামে বলে দেয় 1 পাতা লিখতে হবে। অনেক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ও বলে দেয় কত Character or Word or Page এর মাঝে লিখতে হবে। তাই সব কিছুই অনেকটা variable (যে কোন সময় পরিবর্তিত হতে পারে)। তাই বলে কি করবেন? প্রত্যেক জায়গাতে আবেদনের সময় ই নতুন SOP বানাবেন? নতুন করে লিখবেন সব? তাহলে উত্তর দিচ্ছি।
যেহেতু বিভিন্ন রকম SOP লিখতে হয়। তাই আমি যেটা করেছিলাম একটা 2–3 পাতার SOP লিখে রেখেছিলাম। আমি জানি কোন Point গুলো আমার 1 পাতার ভিতর দিতে হবে আর কোন গুলো একটু কম গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। তাই সাধারণ একটা SOP তৈরি করে রেখেছিলাম। যেটাতে প্রায় সব প্রশ্নের উত্তর ই লেখা থাকত। University, Scholarship, Program অনুযায়ী আমি Customize করে দিয়ে দিতাম। এরকম করে আমার সময়ও বাঁচত আমার SOP ও অনেকটাই Unique হত। কারণ সব Program এই আমাকে নতুন কিছু না কিছু যোগ করতে হত।
General SOP বানাতে হলেঃ
1. আপনি কেন Z বিষয়ে Undergrad করেছেন? (Undergrad এ আবেদন করতে হলে এই পার্ট বাদ দিতে পারেন।)
2. কেন এই Grad এ X নামক প্রোগামে Y নামক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে আসতে চাচ্ছেন?
3. X নামক প্রোগাম নিয়ে আপনার কোন Experience (Research/Work) থাকলে তাও লিখতে পারেন।
4. এই বিষয় থেকে আপনার Expectation টা কি কি?
5. দেশে ফেরার পর আপনি আপনার শিক্ষাকে কিভাবে ব্যবহার করবেন?
এই 5 টি প্রশ্ন Mandatory বলতে পারেন। এরপর আর কিছু ইচ্ছা হলে যোগ করতে পারেন।

Stipendium Hungaricum:
Why are you a suitable candidate?
Why have I chosen to apply to this programme? Why did you apply to study in Hungary?
What do I expect to gain from my studies? How will the programme help me to achieve my goals?
Why does my background make me a suitable candidate?
How does your proposed study relate to a particular development challenge or need at the global, national, and/or local level? How will you apply your new skills and qualifications when you return home?
How will you apply your new skills and qualifications when you return home?
What challenges would you expect to encounter while studying in a foreign country, and how could you prepare for these challenges?
ICCR:
Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, please share your story.
Turkish Burslari Scholarship:
1 — Subject of study
2 — Working Title (Up to 15 words)(Please write in short and concise terms the title of your work as a thesis or an article title.)
3 — Analysis of the Problem (at least 75, maximum 300 words)(In this section, briefly describe the topic and your theory (concept map) to be used in the study.)
4 — Research Method (minimum 50 maximum 300 words)”(Give information about the academic research methods you intend to use in this study. For example, in-depth interviews, observations, surveys, experiments, etc.) For example, in-depth interviews, observations, surveys, experiments, etc.)
5 — General Structure of the Study (at least 75, maximum 300 words)Write the main headings of the study.)
6 — Academic Contribution of the Study (minimum 75, maximum 300 words) (Explain how this study will contribute to your academic field.)
University of Tartu (Software Engineering):
1. What technical and non-technical skills do you have that prepare you well for the Software Engineering Master’s programme? When describing your technical skills, please indicate what programming languages and development tools you are most familiar with, and how you assess your level of mastery of these programming languages and development tools? When describing your non-technical skills, explain why you think these skills are important for successfully working in the software industry.
2. What is/are the most complex software engineering task(s) or project(s) that you have completed? If the output of these task(s)/project(s) are open-source or can be made open-source, please provide the link(s) to the public code repository.
3. Have you participated in programming challenges or contests, informatics Olympiads, hackathons or code camps, or have you completed open online courses or extra-curricular courses in software engineering or related fields? If so, please describe your record of participation in such extra-curricular activities.
4. Why are you interested in this Software Engineering Master’s programme?
5. Which of the two specializations of this Master’s programme (enterprise software or embedded software) would you like to choose and why?
আপনার এই ব্লগটি পড়ে সব উদ্ধার করলেও আমি অনুরোধ করব EMK Center (facebook.com/EMKCenter) এর SOP নিয়ে একটি সেশন করতে। কারণ তারা পুরো ১-২ ঘন্টার একটা সেশন নেয় শুধু SOP নিয়েই। EMK প্রতি ১-২ মাসেই SOP নিয়ে সেশন আয়োজন করে। করোনার জন্য তো তারা zoom এই আয়োজন করে এখন।
SOP, CV এসব চেক করাতে EMK Center এর সাথে যোগাযোগ করতে পারেন। তারা দেখে দেয়। আর হ্যাঁ তারা শুধু USA তে পড়তে গেলেই চেক করে দেয়। তাই সাধু সাবধান!!
আর এছাড়াও আপনি আপনার SOP, CV এসব Grammarly Premium দিয়ে চেক করাতে পারেন। বা আশেপাশের কারও Subscription থাকলে তার থেকেও নিতে পারেন। আমি নিজেও শুধু জাহাঙ্গীরনগর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থী হলেই SOP, CV আমার অবসর সময়ে চেক করে দেই বিনামূল্যে।
Note: আমার থেকে কেউ আমার SOP, CV চেয়ে ইনবক্সে নক দিবেন নাহ। আমি কাউকেই বিশেষত আমার জিনিসপত্র দেই নাহ।
